Home Prices & Commissions Over Time
Residential Real Estate commissions are normally based on a percentage of the home’s sale price. The Department of Justice has monitored over the past decade the average commission rate. The following report gives a detailed overview on how the commission rose with the increase in sales price. Our company has never felt the real estate fee to list or sell a home should be more because the sales price was more or less because the sales price was less since for several years we have charged a flat fee based on the amount of work, marketing, expense, support and marketing we provided.
We know from a broker’s perspective the time, effort and expense invloved in selling a home priced at $1,000,000 with 6% commission or $60,000 commission is not likely to be 10 times more work and expense than selling a home priced at $100,000 with 6% commission or $6,000 commission. In some cases it may be more difficult to sell the $100,000 home than the million dollar home assuming both are competively priced.
